In June 2016, a new Annual Professional Performance Review (APPR) plan for Capital Region BOCES teachers and school leaders was approved by the New York State Education Department (SED). APPR is intended to improve and maintain the quality of instruction for professional staff by reviewing their performance on an on-going basis. The new evaluation system is required by an amendment to NYS Education Law 3012-d.
While BOCES teachers and principals have always been evaluated and held to rigorous standards, the amended requirements follow more rigid rules set by the state and, for the first time ever, a portion of teacher evaluation is directly tied to student performance on state exams or other state-approved learning measures.
This page has been designed as a one-stop source for information staff needs about APPR and for up-to-date evaluation forms and supporting materials.
