Sterile Processing Technician Adult Program

Sterile Processing Technicians are on the front lines in the war against germs and are essential in keeping healthcare environments safe for patients. These technicians decontaminate, inspect, package and sterilize equipment and devices used in the healthcare environment. These items can range from very complex medical devices to simple hand-held surgical instrumentation, and are essential to patient care and successful patient outcomes.

Sterile Processing Technicians can find employment in hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, medical laboratories, birth centers and other facilities where sterilized equipment is needed. They must be knowledgeable about infection control practices, decontamination and sterilization guidelines and protocols, microbiology, anatomy, medical terminology and surgical procedures, and various material management functions.

The part-time program runs from September to April.

Essentials:

  • Class runs September to April (Start date TBD)
  • Class hours are 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Clinical experience is offered at
    • Albany Medical Center
    • Ellis Hospital
    • St. Peter's Hospital

 

Admission requirements:

  • High chool transcript of equivelancy diploma
  • Succesful interview
  • Professional and personal references
  • Physical exam and immunizations

 

Cost

  • Application fee: $30
  • Commitment fee: $100
  • Tuition: $3,503
  • Books: Approximately $100
