NERIC to
offer
"swine flu" technology trainings
(Sept. 17, 2009)
As school districts proactively plan
for a possible dramatic increase in H1N1 "swine flu"
virus cases, NERIC is working behind the scenes to
provide district staff with training tips geared
toward making technology work for them in the event
of a long school closure or multiple student
absences.
NERIC will offer free teacher
training through its Model Schools program on how to
use technology already available in schools. The
focus will be on keeping students on track in the
event students cannot gather together normally for
class.
Training tips will range from simple
class management techniques such as monitoring
projects via e-mail to running online classrooms
that students can securely access from any
Internet-connected computer.
"NERIC's goal is to keep the
trainings simple and focused on helping districts
provide continuity for learning during an outbreak
of flu illness," says Carl Strang, Assistant
Superintendent for Technology and Innovation.
Model Schools trainers will be
informing districts of various training options.
Districts interested in tips for using technology to
deal with a swine flu outbreak can contact Model
Schools Coordinator
