Tech Valley High School honored by Rensselaer County Chamber with "Good News" award

(November 3, 2009) Tech Valley High School was recognized recently by the Rensselaer County Chamber of Commerce for positively impacting the region's quality of life.

The Chamber of Commerce presented TVHS students and faculty members with a “Good News Rensselaer County" award at a breakfast ceremony on October 27 in Troy. TVHS was one of five organizations and businesses from the county to be honored by the chamber.

"It was an honor to represent the school and take part in this," said sophomore Sarah Dwyer, who attended the event with junior Kaeli Jerome and teachers Mary VanHoomissen and Stacia Snow.

“Good News” awards publicly recognize exceptional businesses or organizations that have positively impacted the region’s economy and quality of life.

The honor comes the same year TVHS relocated to the University at Albany East Campus in East Greenbush, after spending its first two years of existence at the Pitney Bowes building in North Greenbush. Additionally, the school was named a model school by the New Technology Network last month and, as such, will host educators from throughout  the East Coast who are interested in 21st century skills and project-based learning.

“Tech Valley High is unique for many reasons, one of which is our partnership with businesses, organized labor, government and higher education sectors,” said Principal Dan Liebert. “The successful education of our students, including opportunities to take part in real-life experiences, is the result of this team effort.”
