SED Commissioner appoints Capital Region BOCES District
Superintendent Charles Dedrick as WSHWE BOCES interim
district superintendent
(June
24, 2009)—Capital Region BOCES District
Superintendent Charles Dedrick has been appointed to
serve as the interim district superintendent for the
Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex (WSWHE) BOCES,
effective July 1. WSWHE's current District
Superintendent Dr. John Stoothoff, is retiring and, as
required by Education Law, State Education Commissioner
Mills must appoint a current district superintendent to
act as interim.
Dedrick's primary responsibility will be to
serve as WSWHE's representative to the
Commissioner and the State Education Department.
He will also be serving as search consultant to
the WSWHE Board of Education, assisting them in
the recruitment process for a new district
superintendent.
Terry Blanchfield, WSWHE's assistant
superintendent for administrative services, has
been appointed by the WSWHE board to serve as
chief operating officer and will handle the
day-to-day operations of the BOCES. Dedrick and
Blanchfield will work together to lead WSWHE
during this period of transition until a
successor is found to replace Dr. Stoothoff.
With the soon retirement of Commissioner Mills,
the next Commissioner will select the final
candidate for WSWHE's new district
superintendent. It is anticipated this person
will be in place by Spring 2010.
