Itinerant Services

The Capital Region BOCES offers schools the opportunity to share the services of professional educators. BOCES' Special Education administers itinerant services that are related to special education, while BOCES' School Support Services administers services related to general education. Special Education itinerant services include:

Assistive Technology Specialist (CoSer 319-6813)

Assistive technology (AT) services include the following options:

arrow bulletIndividual Student Technology Consultations (STC);

arrow bulletProfessional development on topics related to AT and Universal Design for Learning;

arrow bulletTechnical assistance in providing instructional materials in alternate formats (AIM);

Assistive Technology is also available for loan and extended assessment on a limited basis.

 

Consultant Teacher (CoSer 327-4670)

These are direct and indirect services to students with disabilities who are in regular education settings in public, private and parochial schools in the region. In addition to the range of instructional possibilities normally expected of a Special Education Consultant Teacher, specialized expertise in several areas is available. These areas include the following:

arrow bulletTeacher of the Deaf–provided by a consultant teacher who is certified in Education of the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing.;

arrow bulletWilson Language Programseveral members of the Special Education staff have received training in this interactive and multi-sensory instructional model, which aims to directly and systematically teach students how to fluently and accurately decode. It teaches “total word construction” and phonics and focuses on teaching students to encode (spell) as they decode;

arrow bulletTraumatic Brain Injurythis consultant service is provided by a certified special education teacher to students with traumatic brain injury.

2013-14 Pricing: $24,975 annual per day; $135 per hour; $540 per evaluation (4X hourly)

 

Interpreter for the Deaf (CoSer 312-6718)

This service provides interpreting in mainstream classrooms for deaf/hard of hearing students. Interpreters accompany students to various mainstream settings where they interpret classroom information and provide curriculum support. This itinerant service is generally a one-to-one service for a particular student.

Pricing: $13,394 annual per day

 

Occupational Therapy (CoSer 309-6717)

This program provides occupational therapy services to children in order to address fine-motor needs in an educational environment. This service can be purchased by the day or in individual and/or group sessions.

Pricing: $21,978 annual per day, $66 per treatment, $264 per evaluation

 

Orientation and Mobility Teachers (CoSer 304-4620)

These teachers provide skill training in movement and travel to students who are blind/visually impaired. Service can be provided to students receiving either regular or special education in public or private schools.

2013-14 Pricing: $26,307 annual per day, $158 per hour, $632 per evaluation

Physical Therapist (CoSer 308-6716)

This program provides physical therapy services to children in order to address their gross motor needs in an educational environment. This service can be purchased by the day, or in individual or group sessions.

2013-14 Pricing: $23,495 annual per day, $71 per treatment, $284 per evaluation

 

Rehabilitation Teachers (CoSer 304-4620)

These teachers provide training in skills needed for daily living, including manual dexterity, fine and gross-motor coordination, personal care, money and home management and creative use of free time to students who are blind/visually impaired. Service can be provided to students receiving either regular or special education in public or private schools.

2013-14 Pricing: $26,307 annual per day, $158 per hour, $632 per evaluation

 

School Psychological Services (CoSer 301-6810)

This service identifies special needs of students through consultation, observation and psychological and educational assessment; analyzes, integrates and reports psychological and educational information about student behavior and conditions related to learning; provides crisis intervention; and conducts individual psychological assessments of students.

2013-14 Pricing: $18,787 annual per day

 

School Social Work (CoSer 306-6910)

This service provides individual and/or group counseling to students, as well as consultation to families and staff members and may act as a liaison with other agencies. This service can be purchased by day or in individual and/or group sessions.

2013-14 Pricing: $26,085 annual per day, $141 per hour

 

Speech Impared (CoSer 303-4650)

This program provides individual and/or group therapy sessions to students needing remediation of speech and language disorders. This service can be purchased by day or in individual and/or group sessions.

2013-14 Pricing: $27,750 annual per day, $143 per hour, $572 per evaluation

 

Speech Improvement (CoSer 320-5130)

This services provides individual or group services to students who demonstrate communication problems. These problems may be in the areas of articulation, language comprehension or production, fluency or voice production. Instruction is provided by certified teachers of speech and hearing handicapped.

2013-14 Pricing: $27,750 annual per day, $143 per hour

Sunnyview Tutorial Services (CoSer 321-4610)

This program serves students who have been referred to Sunnyview Hospital and Rehabilitation Center in Schenectady for treatment of physical and post-surgical problems. Instruction, which occurs in a classroom or at bedside, includes one hour a day for elementary students and two hours a day for secondary students.

2013-14 Pricing: $39 per hour

 

Teacher of the Visually Impaired (Coser 304-4620)

These teachers serve visually impaired/blind students attending public or private schools and receiving either regular or special education. They work directly with the students to help them succeed academically. They locate or develop large-print, taped or Braille instructional materials and provide consulting services to students’ parents and other teachers.
