To become a substitute teacher, nurse and/or teacher assistant, applicants need to:

Download and complete all forms, which are to be brought to the interview appointment — no applications are accepted by mail.

  • Note, new security watermarks on transcripts are making it hard for districts to read them. (These background marks appear when we must copy the documents.) Consequently, if you're not teacher-certified, please bring your college diploma if possible.
  • Schedule an appointment. (Instructions for scheduling appointments.) Please be patient; it generally takes four to six weeks to get an appointment. Appointments will include:
    • Interview
    • Application review
    • System orientation
  • Substitute nurse applicants call (518) 464-5127 for an appointment.
  • Note: Teacher assistant substitutes are booked through our service for ten districts: Capital Region BOCES, Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Cohoes, Duanesburg, Green Island, Niskayuna, North Colonie, Schalmont, South Colonie and Voorheesville. All other districts' teacher assistant subs are booked directly by the districts.
