Worcester Central Schools Tax Calculator
Use our tax calculator to find out how much
the proposed capital
project will cost you
If the proposed $32.6 million capital project is approved by voters on March 12, the district will pay for it by borrowing funds (i.e., issuing bonds) that will be paid back over 30 years. While the State of New York will pay more than $22 million of the total project cost, there will still be a cost to district residents.
For a house with a full value assessment of $100,000 and a Basic STAR exemption, the average annual cost of the project is estimated to be between $154 and $182 (depending on the town the house located in) for the first 16 years of the debt period, beginning in 2010. For the remaining 14 years, the cost will drop dramatically.
However, a house’s full value is NOT the same as its assessed value. Your home’s assessed value is what is used to calculate your annual school taxes.
It is important that you have accurate information on which to base your decision when you vote on March 12. This tax calculator will help you calculate what YOUR average annual cost of the project will be for the first 16 years.
To begin using the tax calculator please click the tab above for your town. You will need to know the assessed value of your home and which STAR exemption you have, if any. Refer to your most recent tax bill for this information.
Please note that all homeowners in New York State are eligible to receive at STAR exemption to help lower their school tax bill. If you do not currently have the STAR exemption on your home, contact your town assessor. The deadline is March 1.
