Intense
Management Needs (IMN)/Pathways
This clinical program (CoSer
219-4230) is a collaborative effort between the New York State
Office of Mental Health (OMH) and the Capital Region BOCES.
Pathways serves adolescents in grades 9-12 with acute mental
health diagnoses. Students in the program typically exhibit symptoms
of anxiety, depression, psychosis, suicidal ideation or other mental
health problems that render them temporarily unable to function in
more traditional school programs.
Pathways is a year-round program
with a target length of stay of one year. There is a 6:1:1
student/teacher/aide ratio.
What Do We Offer?
The
goals of the Pathways program are varied and individualized to meet
student needs. In general, these include stabilizing students through
the use of intensive therapeutic services while helping to keep them on
track academically. The ultimate goal of the program is to minimize or
eliminate symptoms of mental illness in order to improve overall
functioning.
The
BOCES and OMH staff work collaboratively to teach positive social skills
and techniques, such as maintaining self-control, reducing anxiety and
developing coping skills. They also work together to address academic
needs (including preparation for state Regents and RCT exams).
Admission to the year-round Pathways program is on-going.
During the 2009-10 school year, the
IMN/Pathways program is
located at the Page Avenue School/Cohoes CSD.
