What
regional educators are saying about
Value Added Analysis
"Value Added
Analysis has given our School District a tool that
can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of our
programs and methods and materials used to deliver
instruction. The traditional evaluation systems do
not give small school districts the tools they need
to make valuable instructional decisions."
--John
E. McKinney, Superintendent
Green
Island Union Free School District
"Value
Added analysis is an excellent tool for gathering real
data over time and using this information to make
decisions that will improve student achievement. The
greatest aspect of VAA is it's ability to measure
student progress. Value Added analysis will enable our
school district the opportunity to measure the impact of
our educational practices and to make decisions about
where to focus our resources in order to ensure the
growth opportunities of all students."
--Michael
Paolino, Data Coordinator
Voorheesville Central School District
"From
my perspective, Value Added has given us another tool in
our effort to raise student achievement. It has
provided us with the opportunity to measure the academic
growth of each child, no matter what level he/she is
performing at. I have found value added to be an
important tool to measure the progress of our gifted
students as well as our students who need AIS services.
Overall we are thrilled to be in the ground floor of
this important venture."
--Charles
Dedrick, Superintendent
Cohoes City School District
"For so
long, we have been comparing a group of students from
one year against groups of students from other years.
Value Added analysis allows us to follow students
longitudinally and measure individual growth. So
although a student may not have made a state cut-off
point, they may very well have made incredible growth.
Students who have made a three or a four on a state test
may have exhibited less growth than expected. The
information provided keeps us focused on individual
students of all academic abilities and allows us to
adjust instruction accordingly."
--Ken Lein,
Principal, Voorheesville Elementary School
Voorheesville Central School District
“Value-Added is
coming! It is part of several states’ school
accountability systems now and many believe that it
will be part of the next reauthorization of NCLB.
Locally, it is a good tool to help determine student
growth over time, especially as it relates to new
interventions. It makes sense to learn about
valued- added now!

Director of Elem. Ed.
